Research about the Author Ishmael Beah

Ishmael Beah is a Sierra Lone author and a human rights activists who rose to fame after writing his bestselling book A Long Way Gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. In his book A Long Way Gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier Ishmael relays his life and what he faced when he was thirteen years old how he became a boy soldier for rebels during the Sierra Lone civil war in 1980’s. For four years Ismael Beah was forced to kill numerous people in the name of the war that was going on. After a while he was rescued from the government in the United Nations Children’s Fund and was given a chance at a new life with his uncle. Because of how Ismael Beah account moved so many people it prompted the Unites Nations to take more charge in children who war victims of war. Right now Ismael servers as a member of the Human Rights Watch Children’s Division Advisory Committee and has spoken to numerous governmental bodies about the plight of children affected by war. Right now Ismael is head of his foundation which is dedicated to helping former children soldiers find new lives.

The conflict that he is facing is because of this war that is going on he has been separated from his family and because of this he has to serve as a soldier as a war between two tribes in Serra Leone is going on. The action he is taking because of this is serving in the army so he can later go home to his mother, brothers, and father. I predict that Ishmael Beah will finally make it home to his family and I pray that the war in Sierra Leone will end.

Seniors Disregard College Reputations by Debunking Stereotypes

The speakers in Seniors Disregard College Reputations by Debunking Stereotypes would be Senior Katherine Carr, Joseph Cohen, and Kaitlyn Shive. The desire/goal for those three seniors is to beat the stereotype of their favorite colleges. The conflict that all three seniors are facing now is because of this stereotype’s people are overlooking them senior Joseph Cohen reports that he faced judgment from other students that were Ohio State fans after he made the decision to attend University of Michigan. Another conflict that a student is facing would be Kaitlyn Shive when she made the decision to attend Ohio University but her mother was a little weary about the decision because of the report of how Ohio University is a party school she reports that, “My mom was hesitant because she heard that OU’s ranking  as a party school.” But when they both came together they both came to a common agreement and because of this she said that instead of people overlooking a college’s reputation “they should look at colleges in greater depth, beyond stigmas and public events before they write them off.” So the action all three seniors are now doing is they are taking a closer look at the colleges and talking to their parents about their decision to attend the college. My predictions now is that since they are looking closely into the colleges they will be able to attend.

The speaker of the passage Social Media Limitation Sparks Debate over Restriction Inconvenience would be multiple speaker such as the Assistant principle William Rice, Health techer Gary Popovich, Junior Kylie Damron, Junior Caitlin Parigen, Senior Alyssa Sinchek, and Senior Heather Smith. The central desire or goal that they all hope to achieve is they want the school to unblock sites that are blocked by the schools fire wall. The conflict that they are facing is some of them don’t see the school blocking websites as being a bad thing because Assistant principle William Rice said “there are a lot bigger things we should be focusing on and Pandora is just music. We don’t need it for an educational setting.” He believes that the blocking of sites are a good thing for the school because some of the sites slow down the network. So the action they are all taking is that they are all coming to an agreement that the blocking of the sites are a good thing for the educational system. My predictions now are that in the future they will come into an agreement that the blocking is for a good thing.                                              

Final Blog Post

This post that I have posted shows demonstrates my understanding on what I am reading by showing how that I improving greatly as a reader and how that I am being able to analyze what I am reading. This post demonstrates strong writing by showing how I understand what I am reading by giving in depth explanation of the text. I chose to show informal diction this is evident when it says “I open my eyes and thrust my arm out” this quote shows low diction by clearly showing how we use it in our everyday lives. My post also shows elevated diction when it says “Gritting my teeth, I drag the blade down” shows elevated diction by showing that no one uses such words in everyday conversation. My post shows abstract diction by showing emotion when it says “Gritting my teeth, I drag the blade down. It stings, but I barely notice” this shows pain when the author says “It stings, but I barely notice” showing how the character being described is in pain. My post shows denotation and connotation when it says “Then, with a gasp I can’t contain, I shift my hands forward, and my blood sizzles on the coals. I am selfish. I am brave.” From this we can get the feeling of how much pain she is when she says “then with a gasp I can’t contain, I shift my hands forward” showing that it hurt badly when she had cut herself with the blade.

Prediction

I predict that Tris will change factions because she wants to be different I know this on page 47 “Marcus offers me my knife. I look into his eyes- they are dark blue, a strange color- and take it. He nods, and I turn toward the bowls. Dauntless fire and Abnegation stones are both on my left, one in front of my shoulder and one behind. I hold the knife in my right hand and touch the blade to my palm. Gritting my teeth, I drag the blade down. I hold the knife in my right hand and touch the blade to my palm. Gritting my teeth, I drag the blade down. It stings, but I barely notice. I hold both hands to my chest, and my next breath shudders on the way out. I open my eyes and thrust my arm out. My blood drips onto the carpet between the two bowls. Then, with a gasp I can’t contain, I shift my hands forward, and my blood sizzles on the coals. I am selfish. I am brave.” From this quote we see how she chose to be different and chose a different faction not be I the same faction her family is in.

The Most Important Line

In divergent you will find many important lines in the book but the lines that are the most important to me are in chapter five when it says “Marcus offers me my knife.
